With the alarm set we woke up at 11am and headed over to Aria to check out the mall and casino. There were pretty displays everywhere for Halloween, but other than that there wasn’t much to stay for as it was quite generic inside. We headed back to the hotel to collect my laptop and pop to Earl of Sandwich for another Jerk Chicken sarnie before strolling down to Fashion Show Mall. I had a brief shop at Hollister and Forever 21 and sat outside the Apple store to try and check in for our flight.
I was too early to check us in so we popped into Victoria’s Secret to have another cheeky spend, and then headed to Blizz at the Mirage for some frozen yoghurt. I picked the cheesecake, crème brulee and praline flavours. We overloaded on toppings, munched them and made our way back to the Apple store to use the wi-fi as it was now time to check in. I managed to add my second suitcase for $80 and did a final last browse of the Forum Shops, buying some early Christmas presents and some lip balm for myself at Bath and Body Works.
Next stop was Caesar’s for some more gambling where we did okay on the Aladdin machines, before losing it all on another slot which was a much higher denomination than we’d realised. I was betting $5 a spin, and Amy had been betting $10 – oops! We went back to the hotel to drop off our shopping bags and get changed ready for dinner. We both fancied Mexican food but couldn’t be bothered to walk too far as we needed to get back and pack our cases. We browsed around and decided to try out YOLO which is inside the Planet Hollywood casino.
We started with the complimentary chips and salsa, and shared some chicken taquitos. I ordered the chicken quesadilla main and Amy had fajitas with a side of jalapeño mash for us to share. We decided to treat ourselves to some fancier drinks and both got strawberry margaritas – Amy’s with Disaronno and mine virgin as I wasn’t feeling too adventurous. Food was all pretty good, and every table in there was full – I would probably go back.
Afterwards we had a final play on some slots, starting at a gorilla themed one where I had a good win, before losing it on Super Jackpot Party. We moved across to the Hangover slots and ended up staying a while as we both hit a lucky streak, getting the bonus at least ten times each. We were up by around $100 which was very good going for us betting $2 a spin! We managed to stay between $30-75 up for a while before cashing out $40 up as it was really time to get packing.
We headed back up to the room where I managed to catch Blink 182 performing at the Cosmo – perfect views from our window! I watched for a while and packed with the music blasting in the background. Showered and finally managed to squeeze everything into my cases ready for the flight at a very antisocial hour the next morning.
I didn’t note down anything after this point – the flight was fairly uneventful with a long-ish wait at LAX for our main plane home, and a reasonably short connection at Minneapolis again. I’d hoped to get the Marc Jacobs Dot perfume at Duty Free but there wasn’t even time to do that. I wouldn’t fly Delta again if I could help it as their planes (especially on the Minneapolis-London journey) were ridiculously cold and much more outdated than other airlines of the same price level.
Writing this has made me get itchy feet and I have just worked out I have 171 (eeesh!) whole days until my next big trip (just over two weeks in Hawaii) – I definitely need to make some plans for a few inbetweeny city breaks, summer sun and weekend getaways!
