We woke up at the usual time and had our last Froot Loops breakfast, today we were heading to Vegas. As it was to be my third trip, I was feeling lucky! We packed and got ready, then had a last dash around Hollywood & Highland and the boulevard for a little more shopping and grabbed some smoothies at D’Lush. (After visit two I also recommend the Raspberry Colada!) We checked out, leaving our cases with the hotel as we still had some time to kill.
We booked the super shuttle back to LAX (ended up using the other company as the first one was full for the entire day) and sat outside the hotel in the sun to wait. Made use of the time to catch up on Facebook etc, and load the photos of our trip so far to my netbook.
The shuttle ended up being stuck in traffic for ages, and we were a bit concerned we would miss the flight! Luckily we made it with a little time, so grabbed some soft tacos from the Mexican at the airport to eat whilst waiting for our flight to board. Our internal flight was with Southwest Airlines – no problems at all and we arrived into Vegas ahead of schedule. I love the greeting of slot machines at the airport whilst waiting to collect your luggage!
We got in line for a taxi, and the guy was friendly and didn’t try to take us the long way to the hotel – we were happy (I didn’t have the energy to request he avoid the tunnel) so we gave him a very good tip! We arrived at the Flamingo at 8.30pm. There were no queues to check in but within minutes they were huge – obviously a popular time!
We booked the cheapest room type, as we didn’t plan to be there very much but I was pleasantly surprised with the room. They had updated décor, definitely in line with the theme – funky fluffy throws and a spotted chair! We had a strip view, there was a slight view of the construction but barely noticeable, mostly of Caesars, Mirage and Cosmo.
We decided to have our first stroll down the strip (my friend’s first time in Vegas as well) and walked through the Flamingo, Margaritaville and Caesar’s Palace casinos. The hangover slots didn’t exist on my last trip, so we stopped to have a go on these. No third time lucky as I hit the bonus but eventually lost it all.
We were starving by now and didn’t want to venture far. As we were already in Caesar’s at this point we decided to check out Bacchanal which had only been open a week or so. We got there just as they were closing the queue’s so weren’t sure if there were going to be many options left. Thankfully there were plenty, and they kept bringing more out so we were happy. It is quite pricey compared to other buffets but very good with a wide selection of food. I rate this higher than the Wicked Spoon by a long way (as you will see later!). We gambled a little more at the Flamingo before heading to bed still down on our luck!
