After our time in Langkawi we planned to visit Phuket – although when we booked our rough itinerary we overlooked the fact you can’t get a direct flight from Langkawi to Phuket so we had to reroute through KL again. We lost the best part of a day in the process but lesson learned – don’t assume you can always get a flight from A to B!
We were on a slightly smaller budget than our last trip to Thailand (well I was, not so much my boyfriend!) so we stayed at the Sun Sea Sand Hotel which was located a few steps away from Jungceylon. Staff here were very helpful and the included breakfast was very good too. The hotel had a less fancy vibe, especially at the pool area (popular with the lady boys!) but it was perfect for the price
We tried to get booked onto a Simba tour to the Phi Phi islands but left it too late and they were fully booked. I decided to try something I had read on Trip Advisor and head to Rawai beach to hire a longtail boat for the day and visit Coral Island. This was by far the best day we had and the setting looked like a postcard, we had a Thai meal on the beach and snorkelled amongst tropical fish including parrot fish, little barracudas and an enormous electric blue starfish.
In the evenings we spent some time at the beach huts where we befriended one of the Thai bar ladies and played some competitive connect 4 and drinking games. After this it was back to Bangkok for a final few days. We stayed at the Baiyoke Sky which was a great hotel with big rooms – the location was a little further on the edge of where we usually stay (Siam Square area) but it was within walking distance to shops, markets etc.
My boyfriend left for home the night before me, as due to the typical male gene he booked himself on a flight home on the wrong day! So for the last day I spent it leisurely shopping and eating my way around the city before coming back to relax at the hotel and pack ready to head back home for the first time since the end of August! The flight was fairly good – Emirates were a great airline and the stopover in Dubai was short and sweet, with internet, power cables and plenty of shops & restaurants.
This brings me up to date with all my previous trips – my next big trip will be to Los Angeles & Las Vegas on the 15th of September, just three short days away!
