Originally I had planned to go backpacking around Europe during the university holidays by myself, which ended in me booking on to a tour as I felt this would be safer and ease the language barriers. Eventually my friend decided to join me and we headed off on a month long tour across 11 countries. Our tour was a ‘concept tour’ which was the middle budget and accommodation ranged from wooden cabins to hostels and cheap hotels.
Overall it was a great tour but it was a little overpriced and a bit too structured for me – I preferred to go off and do my own thing rather than fill all my free time with ‘optional extras’ which were again overpriced and sometimes not so good. It was a good experience to try something different though and we met some great people this way.
Highlights were tubing down Jungfrau mountain in Switzerland, hitting the casino in Monaco, going a bit crazy after eating hash brownies in Amsterdam and almost getting arrested in Munich!
